Not My First Choice, But Close

[Of all the family-related posts I should be doing... I'm choosing to do this one... go figure!]

I haven't always loved peanut butter, for reasons that will soon be obvious. My two earliest memories of peanut butter are 1st: the gross, oily yellow Adams peanut butter tubs that you had to stir every time you opened it and, let's face it, it didn't taste very good; and 2nd: a neighbor lady and family friend (I know my sis and parents would remember their names) who would have a stored container of peanut butter mixed with jelly to make the PBJ-sandwich-making combo easier. This grossed me out and I never really enjoyed the food option until JIF Extra Crunchy came into the house. This is when my love for PB blossomed into a snack-staple. My mom soon introduced me to PB toast with Jelly sprinkled on top. It is still a favorite pre-bed-time snack. I remember in my voracious appetite years in my teens when as soon as I would get home from school/practice I would make two PBJ sandwiches on delicious wonderbread and devour them on my way out the door. I still think there are few simpler things that taste better.

Mary buys JIF too... except it's the creamy kind. Seriously, why would you get peanut butter without the actual crunchy goodness of the peanuts?! It's a transition that I'm struggling with. We have a large tub in the pantry of the JIF Extra Crunchy and I'm looking forward to breaking that out soon. But, right now, we just have the Creamy available and, let's be realistic, the night-time piece of toast just isn't nearly as good as it was/will be.

Oh, and no, I never liked PBJ sandwiches for lunch at school. It always seemed like the soakage of the jelly into the bread was inevitable.

I liked having the jelly or honey soaked into the bread. In fact, I also like squishing the sandwich to produce a more homogeneous flavor.

Peanut butter and jam on toast is also one of my favorite things. It makes it taste so much better with the warm toast. I hate jam soaked into the bread too, but a while ago I discovered if you put just the thinnest layer of peanut butter on the jam side, it keeps it from soaking in. My mom used to use actual butter to keep it from soaking in during school and I always just had to choke it down! Although I guess it was much worse on the Tuna sandwiches.

I cannot believe that you consider this to be a valid post topic. Random?? There are 3 pictures of a jar of peanut butter - people know what Jiff extra crunchy looks like - they want pictures of our adorable kiddos. You never cease to amaze me Jeff. Love Ya!

Kimberly and I actually took a poll one Farmer Reunion many years ago to see which was more popular, crunchy or creamy. She was dead set on creamy, while I couldn't believe that anyone would choose anything over crunchy. The polls showed that people were split down the middle on the issue.

Now, allow me to blow your mind as far as peanut butter sandwiches go. A roommate from school introduced me to "fluff-a-nutters": a sandwich made with peanut butter and Fluff, a brand of marshmallow cream only available out east. They are unbelievably tasty. I've tried it with regular marshmallow cream and it's pretty close to the real thing. TRY IT!!! You won't be disappointed, I promise. Best before-bed snack ever!

I love the creamy kind! I don't want all of those nuts in the way. I love a PB&J made with toasted bread. Yum!

Oh my goodness!! I LOVE peanut butter!! Love it so much we always keep two different kinds: crunchy for eating, sandwiches, etc and creamy for baking, cooking etc. You're right on white bread/Wonderbread, it is great!

YOu guys must be busy... no post for a while. I'm back - FINALLY - I know. Just wanted to check in and say hi. The PB story is great, and both reasons mentioned are very good ones for not liking PB as a kid. Blah!
SO I think I mentioned we were gonna try to stop in for a visit, end of March. Well we are having to postpone the trip for now. To many unforeseen things decided to pop up all at one time making it not very wise to take a trip. :-( We would have loved to have seen you though!! Hope you are well!
